AS ONE — Local DJs/Georgia State radio personalities Eve and Motomasa celebrate their wedding day with an open celebration featuring hard house, trance, breakbeats and dance classics from the scattered but entertaining Dr. Alex Paterson of the Orb, Ontario’s Trevor Walker and Lance Baptiste, local duo Faust and Shortee, Dr. Fu Manchu, Little Jen and Rob P. Karma (Ware)
BADLY DRAWN BOY — See Record Reviews. PlanetJam Cotton Club (York)
BATTLE OF THE JUNGLIST — Bunk Man and G.B.I. throw an event for the massive that showcases Atlanta drum ‘n’ bass talent, including the decks, MCs and FX of the five-man Majik City Junglist crew, the tag-team of Kryptonite and Kain, Roger, R-Nasty, Neos, B:rok and more. Roll over for the rewind. Somber Reptile (Ware)
GEORGIA PHILHARMONIA — In its debut concert, the Georgia Philharmonia features guest cellist Leslie Parnas in a performance of Dvorak’s Cello Concerto. A volunteer-based orchestra founded earlier this year, the Philharmonia also performs selections by Mendelssohn, Albinoni and John Adams. Alpharetta First United Methodist Church/69 N. Main St. (Hutchinson)
PATTERSON HOOD — While his band the Drive-By Truckers are in the truck-stop to finish up their long-awaited Southern-rock opera, frontman Hood is back on the road to present songs from his new solo album, Killers and Stars. Playing a battered acoustic guitar and telling often profane tales, Hood entertains you for free if you show your Music Midtown ticket stub to the feller at th’ door. It’s a midnight show. Smith’s Olde Bar (Smith)
HANNIBAL JONES — New local songwriter/band leader Hannibal Jones unveils his debut EP, Hollow-Man, tonight. Jones makes straight rock with ’70s AOR, blues rock and pub-rock influences. While sometimes slipping into Southern-boogie cheese (“Hollow-Man”), the songs are always at least catchy and well-crafted, and occasionally irresistible (“Alice”). Dark Horse Tavern (Sarig)
JACQUES LESURE & HARD BOP FEATURING JAVON JACKSON — See listing for Fri., May 4. Churchhill Grounds (Powell)
JOE HOUSTON, O.B.JESSIE — An old school R&B/blues honker of the kind they don’t make anymore, the 70-something “Jumpin’ Joe” used to be billed as “Wild Man of the Tenor Sax” when he backed up Big Joe Turner and Buddy Holly. Although he’s a little mellower now, the title still fits. The big guy doesn’t just play the horn, he assaults it, and his gruff vocals compliment that grinding sound perfectly. The opener is a similarly styled shouter with roots in the ’50s. Blind Willie’s (Horowitz)
LAURA BLACKLEY DUO — In Blackley, the frontwoman of this scaled-down version of her full band, bluesy folk swagger meets a pure vocal style on that fine line between gritty and pretty. Her debut CD, Intentions of Mine, is a pleasurable scoot through bluegrass, country, blues and soul grounded in a familiar folk-rock feel. My Sister’s Room (Hutchinson)
MACHA — Melding the dynamics of rock music with dulcimers, vibraphones, zithers and various Indonesian instruments, Macha lept their way from Athens up the college charts and into indie-rock hearts with two truly exotic albums at the end of the ’90s. Sometimes more gamelan, other times more guitar, Macha’s music is occasionally droning, always dazzling, and worlds away from anything else you’re likely to hear. Echo Lounge (Ware)
MUSIC MIDTOWN 2001 — See Music Midtown Menu Midtown (Sarig)
PUNK ROCK PROM NIGHT — Formal attire is suggested (though it may not survive the moshing) at this punk show with a prom theme, featuring lavish decorations and a punch bowl filled with Sid-only-knows what. Featured bands include all-grrl trio Catfight! and the mighty, manly Helgas, plus their special guests from Alabama, the new wave/punk-rockin’ Nowhere Squares. The Earl (Nicoll)
RHYTHMIC UNIVERSE — Just when you wondered what Atlanta’s underage Candy Kids would do on famed drinking day Cinco De Mayo, PlurPlanet comes along and offers them the trance, house and drum ‘n’ bass sounds of DJs Keri, Starboy, Purple Haze, Jeremy & Kia, Sikora and more to intoxicate them legally. The Globe (Ware)
