Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) is pleased to announce the screening of Citizen Architect: Samuel Mockbee and the Spirit of the Rural Studio at Central Park in Atlantic Station. This documentary film profiles the founder of Rural Studio, a program of Auburn University’s School of Architecture. Rural Studio is one of the most prolific and inspirational design-build outreach programs ever established. Revealing the philosophy and heart behind the Rural Studio, the documentary is guided by passionate, frank and never-before-seen interviews with Mockbee himself. The film will be shown in conjunction with MODA’s current exhibition Design for Social Impact, which focuses on how design processes can be used to solve vital problems and questions of the 21st century. The Rural Studio project 20K House, in which architecture students design affordable, decent housing for residents in rural Alabama, is featured in the exhibition.
