See & Do

Better than digital cable

The French film journal Cahiers du cinéma has been one of the most important voices in contemporary film scholarship, heralding a new way of looking at cinema as an art form and bringing attention to neglected American genre films by the likes of Nicholas Ray, Howard Hawks and Alfred Hitchcock. Many of the contributors to the journal, like François Truffaut, Eric Rohmer and Jean-Luc Godard, went on to redefine the face of world cinema as renowned directors in their own right. The current director of Cahiers du cinéma, Jean-Michel Frodon, will speak at two Atlanta locations FEB. 24, so there's no excuse for cinephiles to miss him. Emory University: Free. 11:30 a.m. White Hall, Room 206, 301 Dowman Drive. 404-727-0589. Kennesaw State University: Free. 6:30 p.m. 1000 Chastain Road, Kennesaw. University Center, Rooms C, D and E. 770-423-6732.
