MIXUP: EYEDRUM AT THE CONTEMPORARY is a supercool sign that Atlanta’s notoriously competitive nonprofit art spaces are seeing the advantages of a little cultural exchange. On MAY 6, Eyedrum Art & Music Gallery brings selections from its regular Video/Film Night and its cutting-edge art of noise, Explorations in Sound, to the Contemporary. The improvisational jam session led by Robert Cheatham has in the past featured animal voices, power tools and toys as instruments. The aural and video sensations will be back-masked with the Contemporary’s ongoing multiartist 2005 Atlanta Biennial. $5-$10. 8-11 p.m. 535 Means St. 404-688-1970. www.thecontemporary.org.

Music?
Crowes Calling?
I already had my tickets to see the BLACK CROWES in NYC when the band announced that it would be coming to Atlanta MAY 5-8. I decided the trip to the Big Apple most likely would leave me short of cash, so I opted to forgo the hometown show. But after hearing the brothers kick it again on “Paint an 8” and “Hotel Illness” in New York, I knew I had to see at least one of the ATL shows. I’m expecting some tunes from Lions, Three Snakes and One Charm and maybe a little Shake Your Money Maker. Glad I got my tickets when I did - Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows are sold out. Mmmm, wonder if I can afford to go Sunday? Maybe if I don’t drink any beer ... yeah, right. $42. 8 p.m. The Tabernacle, 152 Luckie St. 404-249-6400. www.ticketmaster.com.,br.?-- Lea Holland

Friends of Dorothy?
A failed Judy Garland drag queen checks into a clinic to be “born again” as straight in Wizzer Pizzer. Opening MAY 5, 7 Stages’ world premiere comedy riffs on the Wizard of Oz with transgendered politics and “curing homosexuality.” With characters spanning the sexual spectrum, Wizzer Pizzer features Atlanta playwright Topher Payne as Kevin, the Judy Garland drag queen (shown); Scott Turner Schofield as a drag king who impersonates Garth Brooks; Alison Hastings as a leather-clad vixen; and Susan Booth as Dr. Nora, who offers therapy via video to all. $10-$20. Thurs.-Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun., 5 p.m. Through May 29. 1105 Euclid Ave. 404-523-7647. www.7stages.org.<br.?-- Curt Holman

Holiday?
Fifth of May?
A lot of people think the tequila-laden holiday CINCO DE MAYO is the Mexican day of independence. But actually, it celebrates the day that Mexican armies defeated a French force more than twice their size. Fast-forward to more than 100 years later and we celebrate with enough tequila to sink a man twice our size.

At East Andrews Cafe, Cinco De Spiral pays homage to the holiday with Latin DJs, roving mariachis and lots of margaritas. We’ve heard there may also be silly sombreros spotted among the crowd. $5-$10. 1 p.m.-1 a.m. 56 E. Andrews Drive. 404-869-1132. www.spiralentertainment.com.

Smyrna’s Market Village is expecting thousands to attend its fiesta, taking place in the heart of downtown. The party includes live flamenco with performers and dancers, a pinata contest, cheap beer and margaritas, not to mention 10 different types of tequila available for purchase, all for your sipping pleasure. $5-$10. 4-11 p.m. 2840 Atlanta Road, Smyrna. 770-435-1887. www.atlantacincodemayo.com.

This year, Agave’s ever-popular fete offers unlimited Cuervo shots and margaritas for $20. R&B funk band the Brethren perform. We can only hope they consider a cover of “Tequila.” 9 p.m. until ya get kicked out the door. 242 Boulevard. 404-588-0006. www.agaverestaurant.com.

Dance?
Don’t break it?
Rising from the ashes of Stomp! comes the new stage production Break! - a head-bobbin,’ pop-lockin’ journey through 30 years of hip-hop dance. The one-night-only performance MAY 7 features a variety of footwork patterns, spinning and gymnastic moves performed by a New York-based cast, many of whom have danced with some of rap’s most famous artists. The origin of hip-hop may be a bit fuzzy, but this is one history class that shouldn’t be missed. $34-$39. 8 p.m. Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree St. 404-817-8700. www.breakshow.com.

May 5 Thursday?
Among other burning questions that we’d like to ask Judith Martin (aka MISS MANNERS) tonight when she discusses her latest tome, Miss Manners’ Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior: Must we really throw a dollar into the tip jar for a simple cup of joe? How do you tell your neighbor that it is most definitely not OK to practice remixing his latest tune at 1 a.m.? Is “I don’t remember” an acceptable excuse for unacceptable, drunken behavior? $10. 7:30 p.m. Woodruff Arts Center, Rich Auditorium, 1280 Peachtree St. 404-733-5000. www.woodruffcenter.org. (LB)

May 6 Friday?
At the Loaf, we all have ideas for books, columns and personal essays on our minds when we should be working. So it came as no surprise when the folks at the Cartoon Network’s Trade Creative Services department told us they have a piece of art or two that they’ve created outside the office. Take a peek at what these creatives work on when not under Ted’s watchful eye tonight at the Five Spot when their exhibition, Ham Hands, is on display. 8 p.m. 1123 Euclid Ave. 404-223-1100. www.fivespotatl.com. May 7 Saturday?
The Sweet Auburn Springfest continues today with its annual mix of music, arts and vendors. But we’re guessing Destiny’s Child diva Kelly Rowland might just steal the spotlight. Appearing as part of the 2005 My Style, My Way Tour and Contest hosted by the SoftSheen-Carson Style Squad, Rowland will be signing autographs from 2-6 p.m., and judging a runway style competition at 5. Here’s hoping some everyday women who have their diva-look down steal some of the limelight. Festival hours: Sat., 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sun., 2-9 p.m. Through May 8. 236 Auburn Ave. www.sweetauburn.com. (Daniela Chen)

May 8 Sunday?
Here’s a little Mother’s Day secret: Moms aren’t always as fond of those FTD bouquets as you are. Instead of getting her something destined to die, take Mom to the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Gardens for Connoisseurs Tour. The annual event shows off 13 private gardens, many designed by landscape architects and designers, and feature styles ranging from tropical to terraced and everything in between. Think of it as a 3-D walk through Better Homes & Gardens. $10-$25. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Self-guided. For info, call 404-876-5859. Visit www.atlantabotanicalgarden.org for tour information. (LB)

May 9 Monday?
The clambering, pretty orchestral folk pop of Portland’s THE DECEMBERISTS is the opposite of wintery. It does have a vaudevillian lilt that fits with singer/guitarist Colin Meloy’s theatrical intentions. Though his studied lyrics have verged on precious, the group’s latest, Picaresque, is easily the most cohesive release from beginning to end and features Meloy’s best writing to date. $12.50-$15. 8:30 p.m. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. 404-524-7354. www.variety-playhouse.com. (Chris Parker)

May 10 Tuesday?
Perhaps best known as the mom from “Life Goes On,” Tony Award-winning Patti LuPone comes to the Fox tonight through May 15 to sing her heart out in the theatrical concert Matters of the Heart, featuring love songs by composers ranging from Hammerstein to Sondheim. $15-$36. Tues.-Sat., 8 p.m.; Sat., 2 p.m.; Sun., 1 and 6:30 p.m. 660 Peachtree St. 404-817-8700. www.foxtheatre.org. (DC)

May 11 Wednesday?
Punk-rock torch singer DEVIL DOLL, better known to her mom as Colleen Duffy, is a veteran of the West Coast scene. Sensual as hell - hence the name - and ready to seduce with some sax and sleaze, Duffy’s va-va-voom show meshes slinky sex, sassy sizzle, scintillating lounge and tattoo-heavy rockabilly. Are you man enough? The Voodoo Organist and local burlesque performer Torchy Taboo add to the decadent vibe. $7. 9 p.m. Star Bar, 437 Moreland Ave. 404-681-9018. www.starbar.net. (Hal Horowitz)??
