Sake and Sushi, the Modern Atlanta Dance Festival and more


It's time to experiment with something other than a California roll. At SAKE AND SUSHI, local restaurants Savu, Aqua Blue and Geisha House, among others, will set up a sushi, sashimi and hot and cold sake spread for some raw fun. Angel Flight of Georgia, the volunteer organization that provides free flights for medical treatments not available locally, is also holding a silent auction to benefit its services. The Doug Dank Project celebrates two years of innovative, brainy and hilarious improv at PushPush Theater with a three-night party. THE LAST SEEN IMPROV FESTIVAL (pictured) gathers the cream of Atlanta's improv crop and visitors from New York and L.A. Thursday's show features an improvised cartoon, and a live, improvised film piped into the theater from locations around town. On Friday, it's a comedy battle royale between competing improv troupes. Saturday's finale is "The Last Seen," a live show featuring all the participants in a never-to-be-reassembled ensemble. The MODERN ATLANTA DANCE FESTIVAL pulls the scattered sections of Atlanta dance together once a year for the city's only professionally adjudicated modern/contemporary dance event. Good Moves Consort presents Michelle Mora's "Fish Out of Water," inspired by the choreographer's trip to Peru. Also among the talented companies asked to participate are Full Radius Dance, which premieres "Giants in the Sky," and Zoetic Dance Ensemble performing Candess Giyan's "I Bought," a meditation on technology and emotion. Each year the acclaimed ATLANTA BOY CHOIR debuts new members at its Friends and Family concert. The choir, made up of 125 boys ages 5-14, has a diverse repertoire ranging from baroque to spirituals. They've backed up Josh Groban on "Oprah" and will travel to Ukraine and Russia to perform with the Moscow Symphony, the St. Petersburg Boys Choir, the Dzvinochok Choir, and the Kiev Symphony Orchestra and Choir this year. $10. 3 p.m. Clairmont Presbyterian Church, 1994 Clairmont Road, Decatur. 404-378-0064.
