What happens when an Arab and a Jew cross the street? We don’t know, but Comedy For Peace, co-sponsored by Emory Hillel and the Arab Cultural Association, aims to provide a fresh perspective on the conflict in the Middle East through laughter. It’s the Braves home opener against the New York Mets, and as if that weren’t enough to get us sun-starved city folk out to Turner Field, Turner South sweetens the deal with its “My South Rocks” concert series. Every Friday before home games, a “Southern-rooted” band will perform at Turner Stadium and conclude before the game begins. Artists R. Land, Chris Verene, Robert Sherer, Cindy Zarrilli, Alice Nisbet, LiShinault and others band together this evening for the Butler bash auction at PushPush Theater. The evening of music, art and auctions benefits the family of Todd Butler, a popular local artist and musician who died last year from complications of Behcet’s disease, an autoimmune disorder. Seriously, guys, we tried. We tried really, really hard to find an event for you today that did not include the acronym AJC. But a little bird told us that the Atlanta Journal-Constitution International auto show is really worth checking out. A full nine days (it started April 9 and lasts through April 17), the auto show is an enthusiast’s dream come true, featuring everything from Mazdas to Maseratis, including special debuts from BMW, Corvette and others. Concept vehicles and stunts on low-tech BMX bikes help elevate it from your typical ooh-and-ahh fare to a veritable Disney-style attraction. $5-$10. Hours vary. Parlez-vous Francais? It’s OK if not - there will be subtitles. Georgia Tech hosts Tournees, a series featuring recent French cinema, kicking off today with Etre et Avoir. The documentary about a one-room schoolhouse is comprised of pint-sized stories of the school’s 12 children, ages 3 to 11, and the single teacher who instructs them. Other films include Costa-Gavras’ Amen and Eric Rohmer’s The Lady and the Duke. Free. All films screen at 7 p.m. Days vary, through April 21. Once affectionately called “little idiot” for providing underground techno with a face, Moby tours supporting Hotel, his latest attempt to cash in again on the cunningly orchestrated success of 1999’s pop-friendly Play (the tracks from which were licensed to umpteen commercials). While the somewhat forgettable Hotel does away with the stomping blues-and-breakbeats formula, Moby in concert is still likely to deliver pounding beats, mercurial guitar and reverent, transcendent melody.
