You know the story: A young musician's career lights up just before his life is cut short. But there's something in particular about Buddy Holly that still calls to the imagination 50 years after his death. BUDDY: THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY portrays the final three years of Holly's life and explores the raw energy and sweetness that's safely carried his music from LP to iPod. Through April 26. $23-$36. Thurs.-Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun., 2:30 p.m. Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Roswell Cultural Arts Center, 950 Forrest St., Roswell. 770-641-1260. www.get.org. (Gloria Love)
The one and only BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE is a beautiful train wreck of noisy, ego-driven psychedelic rock. Since forming in 1990, the San Francisco-based ensemble has cycled through close to 40 members while singer/guitarist Anton Newcombe has remained the constant, eccentric face of the group. After three years of silence, BJM's 2008 release, My Bloody Underground, dives firmly into the cerebral fuzz and dirge that got the group started in the first place. Flavor Crystals open. $15-$17.50. 8:30 p.m. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. 404-524-7354. www.variety-playhouse.com. (Chad Radford)
If you're looking for a substantially less gory follow--up to Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ, the KIDDS Dance Project has your answer. The troupe presents THE RESURRECTION just in time for Easter at the Rialto Center for the Arts. In this dramatic dance interpretation of Jesus Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, performers use modern dance moves and wear modern clothes to depict the biblical event. The award-winning KIDDS Project helps kids build character through the performing arts. Free. 7:30 p.m. 80 Forsyth St. 770-771-3716. www.rialtocenter.org. (Lizzy Encarnacao)
