Roy Ayers and Destroy All Music Fest

October 23 Friday

From his humble youth in Los Angeles' South Central, the jazz cornucopia of California, ROY AYERS and his famous vibraphone have impressed the jazz scene for nearly five decades. In an effort to promote music involvement and education, Ayers visits Atlanta to participate in a State of the Arts panel discussion with other industry authorities. Saturday, he performs at a Tribute to Fela with the Common Ground Collective, DJ Rich Medina and DJ Kemit. Through Oct. 24. Free-$20. Panel discussion: Fri., 10:30 a.m. Morehouse College, 830 Westview Drive. www.morehouse.edu. Tribute to Fela: Sat., 10 p.m. 595 North Event Venue & Lounge, 595 North Ave. 404-681-2800. www.experiencespreadlove.com. (Kelly Quimby)

October 24 Saturday

The DESTROY ALL MUSIC FESTIVAL returns once again, this time to celebrate 25 years of pure, unbridled noise as (anti-) art, a religion, a tradition and a staunch political agenda. This year the lineup includes a smattering of basement-dwelling feedback heads from around the country, including names such as Andrew Coltrane, Wasteland Jazz Unit, Graham Moore, Mr. Natural and a few others. Prepare yourself for an evening of sometimes pretty, sometimes wrathful but always unorthodox sounds. $10. 6 p.m. Eyedrum Art & Music Gallery, 290 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Suite 8. 404-522-0655. www.eyedrum.org.
