April 28 Thursday?
Project Open Hand is an organization that prepares, packages and delivers food to those who would otherwise go hungry, including senior citizens and people living with HIV or AIDS. But to do all that, the organization needs dough of a different sort. Eat at one of more than 100 participating restaurants today, and 20 percent of your total bill will be donated to Project Open Hand as part of DINING OUT FOR LIFE. Seriously, you know you were gonna go out to eat, anyway. For participating restaurants, www.projectopenhand.org. (LB)

April 29 Friday?
Going to the Mars Volta show would have been cool, but we never got off our asses to buy tickets and now the show is sold out. So on to Plan B: Friday Night Fights at EarthLink Live. Essentially, it’s two guys fighting with few rules. Some people call it no-holds-barred fighting. Others call it mixed martial arts. We call it an ass-kicking good time. $50-$100. 7 p.m. EarthLink Live, 1374 W. Peachtree St. 404-249-6400. www.undisputedproductions.com. (Coley Ward)

April 30 Saturday?
For all you daddios, gearheads and greasers, Stone Mountain Park hosts a COOL CAR FESTIVAL featuring automobiles from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. Highway 78 East. 770-498-5690. www.coolcarfest.com. (AL)

The Atlanta Lyric Theater “dreamed the impossible dream” and strove “to reach the unreachable star” - and if you don’t act quickly, you may miss your chance to see how close they came. The Lyric’s production of Man of La Mancha ends its run today. $35-$45. 2 p.m. Ferst Center for the Arts, 349 Ferst Drive. 404-894-9600. www.ferstcenter.gatech.edu. (Rebecca Ford)

May 2 Monday?
We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen captures the legacy of the seminal American smart-punk act. The group transcended the flippant nature of Reagan-era irreverence with cryptic punk anthems. Though guitarist/vocalist D. Boon’s death in 1985 brought the group to a tragic halt, the legend finds life in this documentary film. $5. 8:30 p.m. The Earl, 488 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-522-3950. www.badearl.com. (Chad Radford)

May 3 Tuesday?
Sure, there’s nothing particularly new about THE SHINS, but every quasi-hipster from the smallest blogger to wags at MTV and NPR have been jumping on their bandwagon lately. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that the show tonight is sold out. The Portland-based band effortlessly welds its penchant for Barrett and the Beatles into an instantly identifiable, recklessly indie sound, and we sure do hope you got your tickets in advance. Sold out. 8 p.m. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. 404-524-7354. www.variety-playhouse.com. (LVS)

May 4 Wednesday?
Singing milkmen, matchmakers and loads of other villagers break into song today when the classic musical Fiddler on the Roof begins at Jewish Theater of the South. $18-$26. Wed.-Thurs., Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun., 3 p.m. Through June 5. 5342 Tilly Mill Road. 770-395-2654. www.atlantajcc.org. (CH)??
