No rush beats discovering fresh talent. Nearly a million were gratefully introduced to Sid Sriram after his rendition of Frank Ocean's "We All Try" on YouTube. The Southeast Asian singer/songwriter illustrates the universality of soul on his sophomore EP. He also proves young adult angst is a global phenomenon, with the likes of "Alchemy/Fountain of Youth." Recorded live and lush with band orchestrations by fellow Berklee alum, Sriram's melisma-heavy delivery sometimes yields to dynamic Middle Eastern scales, adding his own ethnic flavor to a voice that would otherwise be right at home in a C.O.G.I.C. church. Corn high with earnest emotionalism on cuts such as "Fugitive Thoughts," Sriram's sincerity is as infectious as his music. (4 out of 5 stars)
