Singles mix and tapas dish at Twist

Twist -- what a fitting name for the Friday night hot spot. This restaurant puts together a great mix of tapas, elegance and good music -- not to mention, for the sports fan who just can't miss the big game, televisions around the bar accompanied by an LCD projector. Twist is more than a restaurant. It's a club minus the dancing, an eatery with mingling, gourmet dining with a raw bar.

With an upscale Phipps Plaza location that allows for agreeable conversation, a good meal and a drink, Twist is a great alternative to clubbing. Manager Andy Clark says, "It's almost like two different entities: You have the restaurant which provides fine dining, and then you have the lounge area and bar for mingling."

A high-volume, high-energy spot, music is always pumping and people have a great opportunity to meet singles here. The tapas style of dining encourages guests to share food. In addition to sushi, the menu offers several dishes that will tantalize your taste buds: sea scallops, grilled pork ribs, Mediterranean mussels and Thai-style chicken tenderloin, to name a few.

Twist has many faces. You can come in and sit at the center stage bar and eat sushi, or choose a chair from the 300-seat dining room and order a dish from the menu. Al fresco dining is also available on the 75-seat patio. Managers can change restaurant decorum to fit any event's identity. For a recent Heineken event, the lounge area was lit Heineken green.

If you decide to attend, you're more than welcome to come as you are, but I would suggest dressing to impress. The majority of the crowd, especially on Friday nights, dresses stylishly. This is a premier place to be seen by single members of the opposite sex. Twist attracts gentlemen guests who wear a variety of styles, from business casual to designer suits accompanied by platinum and diamond-laced accessories. The ladies match the guys with classy but sexy outfits. Hints of perfume in the air and pretty faces in the crowd make the food that much more enjoyable.

Twist is working on an industry night on Mondays, and there are also plans to have a special night for Buckhead residents. "We don't have a name for it yet, but it will be like a 'know your neighbor night,'" says Clark.

Twist, 3500 Peachtree Road. Mon.-Thurs., 11:30 a.m.-midnight; Fri.-Sat., 11:30 a.m.-1 a.m.; Sun., 1 p.m.-10 p.m. 404-869-1191. www.heretoserverestaurants.com.
