CL'S noted acts for Wednesday, July 12

CAUSEY WAY -- This band's posters from their Atlernative Tentacles record label assure us the Causey Way "is not a cult." But, then, what are they? Well, the answer is a rock/pop outfit who mix the quirkiness of Devo with the coolness of Human League, tossing in a little pep for good measure and a blast of Man or Astro-Man?'s hard-driving future shock for added whiz-bang. With a mix like that, sooner or later they're bound to attract a cult. Echo Lounge (Nicoll)

DAMN! -- This music/video/comedy show brings multi-media thrills from up the road in Athens. Smith's Olde Bar (Sarig)

TEEN IDOLS, BEEFCAKE -- Battle of the punk rock aesthetics. This show features two bands, both enamored of punk's primal simplicity, yet both completely different in their approach. Nashville's Teen Idols spew hard, pop punk (circa '77 Clash) replete with appropriate greasy look and attitude. Meanwhile New Jersey's Beefcake favors the scatological, junior-high humor, outsider angst and paint-by-numbers vitriol reminiscent of contemporary punkers like NOFX. 513 Club (Robertson)

WOGGLES, STIMULANTS, MOONSHINE KILLERS -- Fans of '60s garage rock will not want to miss the Woggles' very special all-covers show tonight, in which they'll rip through many underground classic (see Earshot on p. 89). Although these hyperactive boys certainly don't need any extra stimulation, there'll be plenty of it in the form of the Stimulants (a hard rockin' all-girl trio) and the Moonshine Killers (raging lunatics who may well have escaped from an insane asylum near Athens). Star Bar (Nicoll)
