CL'S noted acts for Friday.22

ZAKK WYLDE'S BLACK LABEL SOCIETY -- Playing what he calls "alcohol BREW-tality for the new millenium," former Ozzy Osbourne ax-man Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society is a double shot of ear-shredding, whiskey-soaked metal that showcases the Wyldeman's outstanding guitar skills and his increasingly clever lyricism. Harder, heavier and nastier than his work with the Ozzman or his previous solo work, Wylde and the BLS pound out serious metal with a dark, disturbing worldview, as evident on the band's latest release, Stronger Than Death. Masquerade (Thompson)

YXIMALLO -- You can think of Naofumi Ishimarus' cracked electronics, stunted percussion curiosities and audio kitchen sinkage as field hollers recorded in the irradiated landscapes of Hiroshima or Nagasaki. After all, Yximallo is several memetic mutations beyond even the Residents for high weirdness. But his exquisitely hand decorated cassettes, which began appearing in the early 1980s, actually trickled out of Tokyo (you know, on the Island of Misfit Noise). They're not the result of chromosomal misadventure. Instead, Yximalloo generates an entrancing and mystifying lo-fi mish-mash of rhythmic white noise, primitive pink noise and Casio-fried green noise. It's dada and Romper Room, punk and situationist, naive art and sophistry. Eccentricity is just the beginning. Some of Yximalloo's most beguiling moments were captured on last year's amazing Fangs of Lucifer LP from Atlanta's Old Gold Records, which helps explain why we Atlantans are blessed to be hosting Ishimaru's first performance in five years and first in America in abut 15. Anything could happen, but here's a cryptic clue: two sets, one acoustic material and one accompanied by drums and bass. eyedrum (Peake)
