May is Bike Month, and on Sun., MAY 23, the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition celebrates by ushering in the city's first-ever ATLANTA STREETS ALIVE!, designed to promote physical wellness, eco-conscious commuting and support local businesses. People replace traffic when five miles of blacktop – stretching from Edgewood, Piedmont and North avenues – is closed to automobiles. Along the route there will be group activities highlighting Atlanta's diversity: yoga, hula-hooping and breakdancing, to name a few. Bonus round: Talking Heads frontman David Byrne lectures on Bicycles, Cities, and the Future of Getting Around Wed., MAY 19, for CNU 18: RX FOR HEALTHY PLACES, a gathering to discuss the hindering effects of sprawl upon healthy urban environments. In the spirit of bike love, Bicycle Tours of Atlanta offers $10 off tours during May with the code "LOAF" at www.biketoursatl.com.
