Every year, Creative Loafing hosts its Fiction Contest, when we open the floodgates for works of fiction penned by our dear readers. It's only par for the course that some submissions are awesomely bad, but others are straight-up awesome. After all the blood, sweat and tears, three finalists receive cash prizes (no joke: $1,000 for first place!) and the chance to bask in well-deserved glory at our annual FICTION CONTEST PARTY. We celebrate the reader-written word at Eyedrum, when the winning scribes read their slip-themed stories. Blast-Off Burlesque whiles away time between readings, and patrons can swap and buy music and books from our massive press closet. Free. 7:30 p.m. 290 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive S.E., Suite 8. 404-522-0655. www.eyedrum.org. Read the winning Fiction Contest entries.
