Special event: HBCU Step Showdown

Fri.-Sat., Sept. 25-26

Nine of the region's fraternities and sororities grapple in the HBCU STEP SHOWDOWN Fri., SEPT. 25, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of stepping, an African-American tradition of competitive stomping, ritualistic chanting and synchronized dancing. Hosted by V103's (WVEE-FM) Ryan Cameron, the Showdown crowns one fraternity and one sorority step team Champions of Stepping. The good times continue to roll Sat., SEPT. 26, when HBCU rivals Florida A&M University and Tennessee State University put up their dukes at the Georgia Dome for the ATLANTA FOOTBALL CLASSIC. The schools' marching bands offer half-time musical respite from all the virile athletic action. HBCU Step Showdown: $16. 8 p.m. Atlanta Civic Center, 395 Piedmont Ave. 800-745-3000. www.ticketmaster.com. Atlanta Football Classic: $10-$50. 3:30 p.m. 1 Georgia Dome Drive. 404-249-6400. www.atlantafootballclassic.com.
