Special event: Heritage Arts Festival

Thursday, July 23

An annual festival celebrating the rich culture and heritage of the African diaspora, the HERITAGE ARTS FESTIVAL returns for its 14th year. Atlantans with an artistic bent can escape the sweltering heat of the pavement and head underground to enjoy step shows, music, art markets, film screenings and more. Some of the most promising talent in the African-American art community will showcase their work, and more than 50 national and international merchants will sell jewelry, clothing and African artifacts. Through July 26. Free. Thurs.-Sat., 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sun., 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Underground Atlanta, 50 Upper Alabama St. 404-523-2311. www.heritageartsfestival.org.
