When someone tells you to go fly a kite, don't take it as an insult. The GEORGIA KITE FESTIVAL sets out on its inaugural flight at Centennial Olympic Park. Whether it's your first time or you're more experienced, the festival has something for everyone. Kites for Kids, a festival initiative, partners the American Kitefliers Association with patients at Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta to make and decorate kites to be sold. All proceeds from Kites for Kids, along with a donation from the festival itself, benefits Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Free, ticket required. 11 a.m.-7 p.m. 265 Luckie St. 404-762-3188. www.georgiakitefestival.com.
