See & Do - Special event: Tut After Dark February 18 2009

Friday, Feb. 20

Dipping one’s toes into the otherworldly realm of mummies can end in ominous curses, or in the film world, reprehensible special effects and Brendan Fraser. Creative Loafing’s TUT AFTER DARK offers a safer glimpse of ancient Egypt with after-hours access to National Geographic’s Tutankhamun: The Golden King & The Great Pharaohs. More than 130 ancient artifacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun and other pharaohs span 2600-600 B.C. and include sarcophagi, human and animal mummies, canopic jars that hold mummy organs and jewelry serious enough to induce klepto impulses. In addition to the visual treasures, jammy local three-piece Sun Domingo performs in the Luxor Lounge, where your first drink is free. $25. 7-10 p.m. Atlanta Civic Center, 395 Piedmont Ave. 877-888-8587. www.ticketmaster.com/tutafterdark.
