Sports: Atlanta Rollergirls

Saturday, Feb. 28

What could be hotter than strong, powerful females duking it out on roller skates? Say goodbye to the days of hair-pulling and the staged theatrics of roller derby, and say hello to a reinvented, hard-hitting, aggressive sport. The ATLANTA ROLLERGIRLS' 2009 season gets underway with Atlanta's all-star team the Dirty South Derby Girls taking on Pittsburgh's Steel City Derby Demons, and Apocalypstix and Toxic Shocks grinding it out for game two. Celebrating their fifth year of mayhem, the Atlanta Rollergirls are adding even more demolition to their season by selling bouts separately to allow more folks to attend, and by trekking even farther across our great country to defend their national ranking. $12-$20. First bout, 5 p.m.; second bout, 7:30 p.m. Yaarab Shrine Center, 400 Ponce de Leon Ave. www.atlantarollergirls.com.
