The self-proclaimed "Bastard Squad" that makes up Atlanta-based Stopper is cranking up the amps and dusting off the mics for its first gig in more than 15 years. The band takes on the Drunken Unicorn with a little help from Burns Like Fire, KarbomB, and the Ignored for a reunion show aimed at raising money for Dave Shumate's legal fund — the former Stopper singer shot by police during a 2009 robbery/suicide attempt at a Walgreens in Fayetteville, and sentenced to 20 years in the clink. By the band's own account, drugs played a big roll in its notorious legacy, 1996 breakup, and, ultimately, Shumate's opiate-driven criminal acts. Now, with a documentary video in the works (and live segments being shot at the show) the crew looks to make up for lost time and help an old friend in the process. Legalities aside, it looks to be a hell of a show.
