Stripper reveals: ‘I’m not actually fascinated by you!’

A Gainesville computer software salesman was brought to tears Thursday night when the stripper to whom he had given nearly $85 in tips over a two-and-a-half-hour period admitted that she had little interest in getting to know him.

“I really believed Sapphire and I had made a connection,” sobbed Ronald Mertz, who came to the Cheetah in Midtown as part of a co-worker’s bachelor party entourage.

Mertz, 47, said he felt things were beginning to click between himself and the buxom, 23-year-old exotic dancer during the second table dance she performed for the group.

“I bought her a drink after she did a really great pole routine and she told me it was her first night working at the club,” Mertz said. “She’s only doing it to support herself and her kid brother while she earns her master’s in macroeconomics at Kennesaw State.”

Mertz said it was when he was leaving and offered to exchange e-mail addresses that Sapphire gave him the bad news: While she had enjoyed giving the paunchy, divorced father of two a restrained lap dance, she didn’t feel the need to keep in touch.

“I know I shouldn’t get so emotionally invested in people so quickly,” he said, “but I really feel like she led me on.”
