Summer Guide Contest: Winning photo

"NEXT SERVICES 83 MILES"

THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO: It is actually a photo of my brother, Dave Luxenberg, that I took on our cross-country road trip in August 2009. We drove from Trenton, N.J., where he lives, to Sacramento, Calif., where I lived until a few months later (when I moved to Atlanta). The photo was taken in central Nevada along U.S. 50. In a Jeep Wrangler, you have to be conscious of where the next gas station is (especially when theyre more than 80 miles apart!). Luckily, the gas container he had in his hand was full we had filled it at our previous stop. We managed to roll into the next gas station on fumes.
