JOHN MAYER — Who says nice guys finish last? Mayer’s made it to “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” on the strength of a pleasant major-label debut, as refreshingly unpretentious as his soft-rock singer/songwriter influences. A little on the sappy side, Mayer nonetheless writes agreeable songs that, judging by the large venue he’s playing, seem to have tapped into some sort of local zeitgeist. Tabernacle (Horowitz)

MUSICIAN’S BLANKET FUND BENEFIT — This inaugural benefit to help area musicians in need features a terrific cast of local roots-music veterans, including Tinsley Ellis, Kodac Harrison, Caroline Aiken, Randall Bramblett and Java Monkey.
