PHILIP GLASS ENSEMBLE — The big “Philip on Film” week kicks off tonight with screenings of new short films by Atom Egoyan, Peter Greenaway, Shirin Neshat, Michal Rovner and Godfrey Reggio, accompanied by the music of Philip Glass, performed live by Glass and his ensemble. If you’ve already seen (and heard) Glass’ previous film work (which is screened with a live soundtrack throughout the week), tonight’s newer material is worth checking out. Given the slowly shifting, arpeggio-filled minimalism that marks nearly all of Glass’ work, there’s no reason to expect a great departure here — though his film work tends to be the place where stylistic divergences occur most. What’s more, the subtle joys to be found in Glass’ mesmerizing music are sure to be enhanced in live performance. See story and interview in Arts. Woodruff Arts Center (Sarig)
