SUNDAY/22

Music
THE CULT, MONSTER MAGNET -- The only show currently scheduled for this venue oughta be an obnoxiously loud, in-your-face, guitar rock blowout, especially without the pretentious Stabbing Westward who have left the tour. The recently revived Cult (see Record Reviews) are a lean, mean, rockin' machine, and New Jersey's Monster Magnet are just mean, whipping off their raw proto-prog/space-blues like a pissed-off, sex-charged Deep Purple. Unapologetically crass, both bands deliver a sonic wallop to the crotch. Also on the bill is Lennon Murphy (see Record Reviews, p. 98). DeKalb Atlanta Center (Horowitz)

Theater
The Georgia Shakespeare Festival's shows are a casual affair. You can show up in shorts. You can picnic on the lawn. But the BOOTS, BABES AND BOYS event JULY 22 also is a chance to wear your shit-kickers and go two-stepping afterward. The event is held in conjunction with the company's Wild West-themed production of As You Like It, Shakespeare's classic cross-dressing comedy, and features cocktails, door prizes and a ticket to the 8 p.m. performance. After the show, audience members are invited to Hoedowns where they can enter a drawing for a special prize package. Tickets are $29 and for groups of 10 or more, there is a $3 per ticket discount. Conant Performing Arts Center, Oglethorpe University Campus, 4484 Peachtree Road. 404-504-3422.

Film
The outback of Australia is the backdrop for outrageous costumes and a queer quest through the desert in the 1994 THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT. A benefit screening is presented by Out on Film JULY 22 at the Starlight Drive-In. So get your popcorn, nestle up to your honey and see the divas in drag on the big screen under the stars. $6 per person. 2000 Moreland Ave. For information regarding the upcoming Atlanta Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, call 404-352-4225 or visit www.outonfilm.com
