A 25-year-old man said his wife, whom he is trying to divorce, came over to his apartment on 26th Street and broke out a rear window. Then, the wife left his 2-year-old son on the front doorstep, shouted that she had to go to work, and left.
A 50-year-old woman in an apartment on Hollywood Road told police on March 30 that someone took her Sony boom box from her bedroom in January. The woman also said "that the community is involved in a conspiracy to steal from her" and she is constantly being watched by two unknown men, the reporting officer wrote.
An officer responded to a call about a drunk man who had parked his car in the middle of Belgrade Avenue. Upon arrival, the officer found a 52-year-old Buford man standing in the middle of the street. The 52-year-old's black Ford Mustang was parked with the engine running. The 52-year-old's speech was slurred and "he had a sleepy look about his eyes," noted the officer.
The 52-year-old said he was there looking for a prostitute he knew. The prostitute had called him for help, he said. The 52-year-old was arrested for "pedestrian under the influence" and carrying a concealed gun and knife.
An officer went to Coca Cola Place and spoke with a 27-year-old woman from Rome, Ga. The woman said she parked her 2001 Chevy Silverado pickup and when she returned, she discovered that someone had thrown a brick through the side passenger window. She said there was semen on the front passenger window.
She believes this is a hate crime because she has a rainbow sticker on her car.
An 82-year-old woman in Pemberton, N.J., said an Atlanta man called and told her that she won $125,000 in a contest. The man said she must send his company a check for $3,200 for tax purposes. The elderly woman sent a check for $3,200 via UPS to an address on Peachtree Road. Then, the man called her again and said she had to send an additional $2,200 in cash. She sent him another check for $2,200. Then, the man called again and complained about the way she had written the check. After the third call, the elderly woman stopped payment on the check. She said she lives alone and doesn't have any living relatives.
In Buckhead, on East Paces Ferry Road, an officer was trying to control a large crowd gathered in a street party following the NCAA Final Four game. The officer saw a 28-year-old man on the balcony of a bar. The man screamed, "Fuck the police," and "Nice gut, you fat fucking pig." The officer went inside the bar and removed the 28-year-old. The 28-year-old tried to escape from the officer's grasp, so the officer swept him to the ground and cuffed him. Then, another man charged at the officer. A second officer stopped the man, who ran at him with his fists raised. He was handcuffed. A third man did the same thing. The first two men apologized for their actions. All three were arrested.
In an apartment on Magnolia Way, a 23-year-old woman said she and her live-in boyfriend, age 25, had agreed to separate. He said he would get his things and leave. She went to bed. When she woke up around 7 a.m., she found the following items either missing or damaged: her computer, sofa cushions, jewelry, CD player, kitchen table and dining room tables and chairs. She also found several notes around the apartment, stating how much the boyfriend loved her, and that she was his world and his everything.
On Seminole Avenue, an officer saw numerous citizens. "Some of the citizens had puzzled looks on their faces while others looked shocked," wrote the officer. Someone said, "There's a fight over there." Two officers headed in the direction in which the citizen pointed. They saw two men and a woman from California "stomping, punching and kicking" two brothers. The older brother, age 29, was in and out of consciousness and bleeding from the mouth. The younger brother, age 25, was unconscious and bleeding from the nose and mouth. Numerous dreadlocks had been pulled from his head and were scattered on the ground.
The two men and woman were arrested; they said the two brothers tried to rob them. But several witnesses said the robbery story was a fabrication, and the California trio had attacked the brothers. The older brother was conscious by the time the ambulance arrived. "He was beaten so bad that both the hearing aids fell out of his ears," wrote the officer. The California trio shouted numerous racial slurs in the presence of police. The California trio was charged with aggravated battery and reckless conduct. "All I could think was these guys are filled with a lot of hate," wrote the officer. All items in the Blotter are taken from actual Atlanta police reports and are public record.
