The Blotter November 06 2003

On Warren Court, an 84-year-old grandmother said her grandson “flipped out” and was running through the house uncontrollably. She said the grandson, age 30, needed psychiatric help. According to a witness, the grandson said he was the devil. He also said he was a dragon. After police put the grandson in the patrol car, he began to howl. Both the grandmother and the witness received minor scrapes while trying to stay away from the grandson. Neither needed medical attention. The grandson was taken to the psychiatric ward at Grady Hospital. He was also charged with two counts of disorderly conduct.

At a bar in East Atlanta, two men ordered food to go and drinks while they waited. One wore a camouflage jacket, the other a white tank top. When their food arrived, the men started eating at the bar from the takeout containers. The waitress said the men could have a plate for their food or they should leave, since they got their food to go. The men cursed the waitress. Then they asked a woman sitting at the bar what she thought of the situation. She said they should get a plate or leave. The man in the camouflage jacket grabbed her jaw and jerked it upward, telling her boyfriend he should “mind his bitch.” The men threw $10 on the bar and left — but their tab was $34. Before leaving, the men said they should call the bar owner; they referred to him by his first name.

An officer responded to a fight call at an apartment on Gault Street. A 37-year-old woman said her boyfriend hid her TV in a box, but she found it. Nothing further.

A security guard at a hotel on Spring Street said two men came into the hotel restaurant and grabbed a monkey statue. The two men left with the monkey statue in a blue Ford Explorer. The monkey statue is worth $300.

An officer responded to a dispute on Piedmont Avenue. A woman said another woman hit her in the head with an ashtray for no reason. Medics treated her for a large lump and bruise above her left eye. The ashtray-wielding woman said the first woman had been stomping her feet around all day. She said she wasn’t going to put up with that, so she hit her in the head with an ashtray. She went to jail.

A 19-year-old man on Plymouth Road said someone threw a large pumpkin at the windshield of his Jeep Cherokee. The windshield was broken and pumpkin pieces were lying on and around the Jeep. The man said his Jeep was egged last year.

An officer responded to an injury call at a parking lot on Jonesboro Road. A thin man said he was hanging out when he saw a car pull in and stop. The driver waved him over. The 19-year-old walked over and stuck his upper body inside the passenger window. He said the driver tried to get him inside the car. The driver pulled away, catching part of the 19-year-old’s body and dragging him along the asphalt. Another man said he walked up to the same car to buy a cigarette. When the driver pulled away, he dragged the 24-year-old as well. The 24-year-old had a muscle injury and road rash, so he was taken to Grady Hospital. Both men couldn’t describe the driver or the car. The reporting officer noted “several inconsistencies about where the car was parked and how the [19-year-old] was dragged.” First, the 19-year-old said he struggled with the driver. Later, he changed his story and said there was no physical contact with the driver. The 19-year-old said he believed the driver wanted some of his money because he’s a rapper with a CD coming out next week. Nothing further.

On Metropolitan Parkway, a prostitute had her skirt pulled up around her waist, soliciting several drivers. Police approached her, and she tried to walk around some bushes to avoid them. She said she was from Indiana and heard that Metropolitan Parkway was the place to make good money as a prostitute. The woman, age 40, was taken to jail for soliciting “rides from roadway.” Police found about 20 condoms and one tube of KY Jelly on her. Those items were thrown away.

A female police officer was working undercover on Metropolitan Parkway. A man, age 33, approached her and said he was a pimp. (The pimp wore glasses and jeans, and had missing teeth). He said he wanted her to work for him, so she arrested him for soliciting. A bag of marijuana was found in his front pocket.

A 20-year-old woman on Park Avenue said her fiance’s child’s mother called her and threatened to kick her ass and put a candy bar in her gas tank.

A 51-year-old man said he had only lived in his apartment on Ponce de Leon Avenue for a week. The night before, he had asked his roommate to turn down his music. The roommate said, “I’ll beat your ass. I’ll fuck up your crippled legs. And I’ll fuck you up.” The 51-year-old, who is confined to a wheelchair, said he felt very intimidated. The staff at this apartment complex (which is a transitional center for the mentally impaired) said they would monitor the situation.
