The Hotelier, Foxing, Little Big League, Rookie Move

It’s amazing how quickly some listeners recoil when they hear a band’s music described as “emo,” as if churning electric guitars, catchy songs sung with passion, and lyrics about love, loss, and life are collectively a bad thing. Whatever you call the sound — post-hardcore, melodic punk, the “E” word — members of Massachusetts’ the Hotelier are great at it, as evidenced by Home, Like Noplace Is There. The band’s sophomore album is at once a gut wrenching and gorgeous collection of shimmering rock songs pockmarked with personal struggle and pulsing with authentic, veins-bulging emotion.
