The Lonely Heart

6 people who define the holiday season
Mike Kerfeld

What's his deal

"Lately, my social life has whittled down to an occasional night out with friends to get drinks or coffee. Things end up so that I've never had a significant other during the holidays. I would imagine that Christmas with a loved one, romantically speaking, would be a most excellent experience, but I wait patiently for that to come."

Ideal holiday meal

"The traditional central-Minnesotan fare of salad (Jell-O, carrot slices and pineapple), hot dish (think IHOP hash browns as a base, combined with any of over 3,000 recipe combinations) and traditional turkey."

Perfect gift

"I love surprises. My favorite gift that I have given was a close-up photo I took of a maple tree in my mom's front yard. On the receiving side, my dad gave me a Fuji 2 megapixel camera."

Where's the party?

"This year I'm traveling to our nation's capital to spend some time with two of my cousins, who hail from the aforementioned haven of Minnesota."

Feel-good activity

"College football is a passion that has captivated me since my days as a student athlete at the University of Tennessee. I get to relive that feeling every Saturday in the fall as I watch my beloved Vols battle it out on the gridiron for all who bleed orange everywhere."
