The consummate singer, songwriter, producer, and all around sophisticate, Stephin Merritt leads THE MAGNETIC FIELDS back through Atlanta in support of their 10th and most recent album, Love at the Bottom of the Sea. It’s the group’s first album with Merge since releasing 69 Love Songs and this time around Merritt’s baritone voice is underscored by a palette of synth pop tendencies that skew the more rock-oriented direction of his songwriting of the last several years. Through it all, Merritt and Co. never lose the sardonic luster that has long given depth to the group’s music. Denver-based gypsy-esque folk rock foursome DeVotchKa opens the show with an acoustic set.
