The Tempest

When: June 8-July 23, 8 p.m. 2011
Price: $15-$45
  • Georgia Shakespeare (closed)

Contemporary theater artists have given Shakespeare’s Prospero a sex change. Lately it seems we see the magic-wielding protagonist of THE TEMPEST as a female rather than a male. Not only did Helen Mirren play "Prospera" in Julie Taymor's recent film adaptation, but Carolyn Cook joins Jan Akers as actresses who've made a woman of the role for Georgia Shakespeare. Directed by Sharon Ott, the opening show of Georgia Shakespeare's 2011 summer repertory also features Chris Kayser as the magical Ariel and Neal Ghant as the oppressed, monstrous Caliban.
