See & Do - Theater: Antigone October 08 2008

Thurs., Oct. 9

The Greeks have been good to Georgia Shakespeare’s Richard Garner, Creative Loafing’s 2008 Critics’ Pick for Best Stage Director. Garner helmed the Alliance Theatre’s luminous production of Eurydice earlier this year, as well as another hit deconstruction of Greek mythology, Metamorphoses, for previous seasons at Georgia Shakespeare. In October, Garner directs his own adaptation of Sophocles’ tragedy ANTIGONE, a musical with tunes by Kendal Simpson. Naima Carter plays the title role, a grieving daughter who challenges the power of the state, represented by 2008 Best Actor Critics’ Pick Chris Kayser. The cast includes Enoch King, Eugene H. Russell IV, Koqunia Forte, Joe Knezevich, Megan McFarland, Neal A. Ghant and Bruce Evers for a preview Thurs., OCT. 9. Through Nov. 2. $15-$40. Thurs.-Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun., 2 p.m. Conant Performing Arts Center, 4484 Peachtree Road. 404-264-0020. www.gashakespeare.org.
