See & Do - Theater: Chicago August 28 2009

Tues.-Sun., Sept. 8-13

In the three decades of its sordid life, the musical CHICAGO has showcased stars ranging from legendary choreographer Bob Fosse to Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. Given the show’s themes of adultery, murder and the media circus that surrounds a sensational trial in the 1920s, it seems appropriate that sleazy talk-show host Jerry Springer should star in the touring show. (Was disgraced Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich not available?) Whether or not the schlockmeister and former Cincinnati mayor has the musical-theater chops to make you chant “JER-RY! JER-RY!,” the show’s renditions of such sizzling numbers as “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango” should have plenty of razzle-dazzle. $20-$67.50. Tues.-Fri., 8 p.m.; Sat., 2 and 8 p.m.; Sun., 1:30 and 7 p.m. Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree St. 800-982-2787. www.foxtheatre.org.
