The 14th Street Playhouse blurs the lines of gender as it takes on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol in SCROOGE IN ROUGE. Set within the framework of Victorian England, the Royal Music Hall's 20-member troupe, the Variety Players, faces a setback when 17 players get a bad case of food poisoning. The three remaining healthy players tackle the cast of more than 20 characters including Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Vesta Virile, et. al, while hilarity ensues. Performed by writer/director Ricky Graham, Jeffery T. Roberson, aka Varla Jean Merman, and Yvette Hargis, this entertaining satire turns the beloved Christmas tale on its head. Through Dec. 27. $36.50. Thurs., Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun., 2 p.m. 173 14th St. 404-733-4738. www.14thstplayhouse.org.
