See & Do - Theater: The Mystery of Irma Vep May 29 2009
Sun., June 7
The backstage costume changes will be nearly as frenetic as the onstage slapstick and camp in Shakespeare Tavern’s production of Charles Ludlam’s THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP. Jeff McKerley and Dolph Amick play eight roles in the beloved quick-change comedy that gleefully spoofs Rebecca and other gothic novels and horror movies. When newlywed Lady Enid moves to Mandacrest Estate, she discovers a sinister housekeeper, howling wolves and rumors of a mummy’s curse. Many Atlanta theaters have staged hilarious productions of Irma Vep, and McKerley, Amick and director Heidi Cline seem entirely qualified to take a stab at it. Through July 5. $12-$32. Thurs.-Sat., 7:30 p.m.; Sun., 6:30 p.m. 499 Peachtree St. 404-874-5299. www.shakespearetavern.com.
