See & Do - Theater: The Persians August 08 2007

Sun., Aug. 12

After the rousing rah-rah of seeing the Spartans fight the Persian invaders in the hit film 300, Theatre in the Square’s production of the Greek tragedy THE PERSIANS, opening Sun., AUG. 12, presents the flip side. Greek playwright Aeschylus fought in the Battle of Salamis, but wrote the classic and lesser-known work from the vanquished Persians’ point of view. Veteran Atlanta thespian John Ammerman directs a cast that includes Maurice Ralston, Marianne Fraulo, Jen Harper and Travis Smith as the commanding Xerxes. For an interview with The Persians’ adaptor/playwright Ellen McLaughlin, see this week’s Speakeasy. Through Sept. 23. $18-$33. Tues.-Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun. 2:30 and 7 p.m. 11 Whitlock Ave., Marietta. 770-422-8369. www.theatreinthesquare.com.
