See & Do - Too much hip-hop to Handel March 29 2006

Music

Here’s a daylong dance card that’ll make your head spin (or get you spinning on your head): Spend the afternoon of APRIL 1 watching B-boys and B-girls battle for supremacy in breakin’, poppin’ and “new style” competitions to scratched funk samples during the SKILL FOR SOLE STREET DANCE BATTLES at the Loft. Presented by the Atlanta Funklordz and Arc the Finger Records, the competition is part of the three-day A3C Independent Hip-Hop Festival, which includes performances by artists such as Minamina Goodsong, Dres Tha Beatnik and Psyche Origami.

For the more classical (or would that be modern?) side of the dance spectrum, head over to the Rialto Center for the Performing Arts to watch Several Dancers Core’s CORE Performance Company merge modern dance to the old-school beats of Handel’s “Messiah,” performed live by the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra. Several Dancers’ __MESSIAH concludes the first Dance @ the Rialto Series, presented by a partnership between Several Dancers Core, the Rialto and the Woodruff Arts Center.
Skill for Sole Street Dance Battles: $10-$22. Begins at noon. 1374 W. Peachtree St. 404-339-0051. www.arcthefinger.com/a3c. Messiah: $16-$42. 8 p.m. 80 Forsyth St. 404-651-4727. www.rialtocenter.org.__
