ATERCIOPELADOS — Columbian duo Aterciopelados are part of that wonderful third wave of Latin music invading the U.S. alongside Ricky Martin’s glitzy pop of and the Buena Vista Social Club’s old-school classicism. Big stars in South America, Aterciopelados update the tropicalistas’ tendency to mix local folk styles with hip American sounds (alt-pop, lounge, electronica) and progressive politics. Their 200 CD, Gozo Poderoso, suggests the group (whose name translates to the Velvety Ones) is well worth seeking out. International Ballroom (Sarig)
