When: Wednesdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Continues through May 12 2012
Atlanta’s Sarah Emerson accesses a dark side in her psychedelic landscape abstractions at her newest show, Underland, at Whitespace Gallery through May 12. Each painting becomes a nearly unrecognizable space where natural objects like trees, stumps, and rocks melt together like candle wax. Emerson employs a platelet of various shades of gray and popping areas of color, and she disguises references to skulls to play up the memento mori motif throughout. Whitespace will hold an opening reception for Underland on Thurs., April 4, at 7 p.m. (Henry Samuels)
