MEDS returns for a limited time to trip the light fantastic down the rabbit hole and into a world where psychopharmacology is king. Now that the mudslinging of the presidential race seems to have gotten, oh, a little bit old, Go Tell Mama! I’m For Obama’s GOT NEXT traveling art exhibition is here to save the day. Tired of the direction in which the political machine usually steers a campaign, Chicago artist CRO set out to change the course ­– with his creativity behind the wheel. So was born the series of Barack-inspired works that now gives us the opportunity to remember why we ever cared in the first place. Through Sept. 28. Free. Artists from all over the country will converge on Atlantic Station for the second annual 17TH STREET ART FAIR. More than 100 artists will set up booths along the streets of the Station’s Central Shopping District to showcase and sell fine art and crafts during this two-day event. Everything from paintings, jewelry, mixed media and photography will be on display, all in hopes of encouraging shoppers to enrich their lives through art as opposed to loading up with shopping bags. Atlanta’s long-standing power-pop trio YOUNG ANTIQUES return to celebrate the CD-release party for their latest, self-released full-length, Soundtrack to Tear Us Apart. Fronted by Blake Rainey (guitar/vocals) and rounded out by Blake Parris (bass) and Kevin Charney (drums), the group’s songs are dripping with whiskey-soaked heartbreak and are wrapped up in loose and confessional songcraft driven by a sultry, jangly garage-rock snarl.
