Ted Weldon, A Fight for Charity and more

December 18 Thursday

Stone Mountain’s Art Station puts holiday songs in a blender with famous showtunes for A BROADWAY CHRISTMAS CAROL. Kathy Feininger’s irreverent take on the Charles Dickens classic stars David Silverman as Scrooge, with Geoff “Googie” Uterhardt and Bethany Irby in the rest of the roles, and musical director Patrick Hutchison at the piano. Through Dec. 21. $21-$27. Thurs.-Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun., 3 p.m. 5384 Manor Drive, Stone Mountain. 770-469-1105. www.artstation.org. (Curt Holman)

December 19 Friday

TED WELDON has done his part for Atlanta’s music scene, fronting the Diggers, Truckadelic and Ghostriders Car Club. Sadly, Weldon suffered a stroke in his right eye that requires extensive surgery, and the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle doesn’t offer a comprehensive health care plan. Slim Chance & the Convicts, Anna Kramer & the Lost Cause, Super X-13, Patterson Hood and more are hosting a two-day benefit to cover Weldon’s medical expenses. Through Dec. 20. 9 p.m. Fri., $15; Sat., $12. Star Bar, 437 Moreland Ave. 404-681-9018. www.starbaratlanta.com. (Chad Radford)

December 19 Friday

Hankering to give back to the community but less than thrilled with soup kitchens and the like? Try A FIGHT FOR CHARITY on for size, Wild Bill’s mixed martial arts competition for a good cause. Snuggle up with 4,000 of your closest friends to see a beat-down to remember, all in the name of the children, of course. Proceeds benefit Toys for Tots. Must be 18 and older. Free with new toy donation. 8:30 p.m. 2075 Market St., Duluth. 678-473-1000. www.fullthrottlemma.com. (Amber Robinson)

December 20 Saturday

Out of all the holiday shenanigans happening around town this season, why not attend one that not only boasts a white Christmas – courtesy of a little home-grown fake snow – but also incorporates dancers, aerialists, DJs spinning yuletide remixes, a fashion show and a performance by Madison Park? All Purpose Party presents the NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, a preliminary fête where you can have a jolly good time before the fruitcakes and family get-togethers looming just around the corner. $10. 9:30 p.m. 595 North Ave. 404-431-1146. www.myspace.com/allpurposeparty.
