Ed Rec Vol. 2

The Parisian electro-house imprint Ed Banger Records operates with enough savoir faire and cooler-than-thou hype to make you vomit. But the frizzy charms of Ed Rec Vol. 2 can't be denied. With the Daft Punk slickness of Justice's "Phantom" as its peak, these dance-floor tracks create a sharp and pleasurable listening experience. Tracks from DJ Mehdi, Mr. Flash, Sebastien and Busy P bleed into one another with nocturnal grace. Even the obnoxiously bratty U.S.-expatriate rapper Uffie – whose wack-ass "Pop the Glock" drew plenty of haters last year – comes correct this time with "Dismissed." When she rails against Internet "crabs," rapping, "Just run back to your computer, your mom and your crack pipe," you feel her swagger and J.J. Fad-like diction. Ed Rec Vol. 2 closes with oddly named producer So Me's brain-smashing remix of Klaxons' "Golden Skans to Interzone," a rave throwback made fresh for 2007. 4 stars.
