See & Do - Visual art: All Things Considered August 27 2008

Fri., Sept. 5

One of the highlights of this summer’s Breaking New Ground exhibition at Spruill Gallery was Kathryn Refi’s somber, large-scale oil paintings. Refi fans will get many more eyefuls of the Athens-based painter in ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, her Solomon Projects solo show opening Fri., SEPT. 5. Refi’s works are always mashups of new(er) and old(er) media worlds, as the artist navigates through video and sound, finding ingenious ways to render them on canvas and paper. This latest outing finds Refi noting and transcribing geographic names mentioned in the first hour of NPR’s “All Things Considered.” The result: a new kind of drawing, a new kind of world map and a reconsideration of where we are. Through Oct. 11. Free. Opening reception, 6-8 p.m.; artist talk Sat., Sept. 6, 2 p.m.; Tues.-Sat., 10 a.m.-6 p.m. 1037 Monroe Drive. 404-875-7100. www.solomonprojects.com.
