Visual art: Scripture for the Eyes

Tues., Nov. 17

The Bible is a difficult read for anyone, so don't take it personal if it makes you feel illiterate. The Michael C. Carlos Museum presents the earliest solution, as this problem has been common for quite some time. SCRIPTURE FOR THE EYES: BIBLE ILLUSTRATION IN NETHERLANDISH PRINTS OF THE SIXTEENTH CENTURY presents woodcuts and engravings from Dutch and Flemish artists that supplemented biblical texts. Jamie Smith lectures on foreignness and familiarity in select works Nov. 19. Through Jan. 24. Free-$8. Tues.-Sat., 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sun., noon-4 p.m.; lecture, 7 p.m. 571 S. Kilgo Circle. 404-727-4282. www.carlos.emory.edu.
