As arts organizations go, the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art may not have the deepest pockets. But that hasn't stopped the institution from amassing one of the metro area's most relevant and important permanent collections. The doors to the collection swing open for the first time in nearly a decade with SHOWCASE & TELL: TREASURES FROM THE SPELMAN COLLEGE PERMANENT COLLECTION, which samples the breadth of African-American art history as seen by the museum and includes contemporary fare by artists such as Iona Rozeal Brown, Bradley McCallum and Jacqueline Tarry, and Atlanta-based mixed-media artist Debra Johnson. Prominently featuring gifts from alumnae, trustees and the artists themselves, the collection is a testament to the museum's unique role in the Atlanta landscape. Through May 16. $3 suggested donation. Tues.-Fri., 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sat., noon-4 p.m. 350 Spelman Lane. 404-270-5607. www.spelman.edu/museum.
