Visual art: Stephen Antonakos

Thurs., Jan. 22

Last August, the geniuses down at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport considered removing Stephen Antonakos' glowing neon sculpture from its site-specific escalator location to replace it with advertising. Reason prevailed and the work remains untouched for now. Tempting fate, the ACA Gallery of SCAD has more Antonakos sculpture on display in DARKNESS AND LIGHT, where the artist will speak on Thurs., JAN. 22. The 81-year-old Antonakos has been presenting solo exhibitions for the past half-century and has been working with neon almost as long. His recent work is heartbreakingly sublime. Thankfully, even an airport manager can see that. Artist talk and reception: Free. 5-8 p.m. Exhibition: Through Feb. 15. Free. Tues.-Wed., 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Thurs., 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Fri.-Sat., 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sun., noon-5 p.m. 1280 Peachtree St. 404-815-2931.
