See & Do - Visual Art: Yard Sale Addict January 16 2008

Tues., Jan. 22

Tom Zarrilli’s proposal at Eyedrum’s 2007 Unbuilt Atlanta exhibition to turn Atlanta into a water park was one of the funniest, most entertaining proposals for remaking the city everyone wants to overhaul. The artist’s pleasingly off-kilter sensibility can be seen in another consuming project documented on Zarrilli’s blog, yardsaleaddict.blogspot.com. It details the bizarre and poignant detritus of individual lives as seen through the objects sold at garage sales (the artist has been spending almost every Saturday of the last 20 years at the front-lawn bodegas). Decatur’s Java Monkey continues an exhibition of Zarrilli’s thrift-score photographs called YARD SALE ADDICT Tues., JAN. 22, following a run at Nashville’s Ruby Green Gallery. Through Jan. 31. Free. Mon.-Fri., 6:30 a.m.-midnight; Sat.-Sun., 7:30 a.m.-midnight. 205 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur. 404-378-5002. www.javamonkeydecatur.com.
