See & Do - Visual Arts: Night Lights August 08 2007

Sat., Aug. 11

For Savannah artist Marcia Goldenstein it’s all about light in her appropriately named solo exhibition NIGHT LIGHTS, continuing Sat., AUG. 11, and through Sept. 1. In her paintings at Castleberry Hill’s Gallery Stokes – formerly Ty Stokes – Goldenstein surveys the heavens at dusk and dawn and various stages in between. More than the land, skies in shades of blue, pink, slate and ink dominate her landscapes. Then there is the light of the human-made variety: the glowing coronas of street lights that illuminate suburban streets like tiny moons and imbue Goldenstein’s domesticated environs with a sense of noirish mystery. Free. Fri., noon-6 p.m.; Sat., 1-5 p.m. 261 Walker St. 404-377-7791. www.gallerystokes.com.
