WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25

(HED)PE, SYSTEMATIC -- Come and hear what the hip-hop/metal hybrid scene was like before Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach crashed the party. This Orange County sextet mixes SoCal punk, sleazy rap and thrash for a full-on assault of guitars, turntables and seething vocals. Nonpoint and Systematic open. Systematic's heavy, dark and deeply melodic debut lives up to the reputation of its executive producer, Lars Ulrich. Still, Somewhere in Between's functional heavy rock exercises don't make for the most memorable or inspired selection of the year. Masquerade (Jordan/Hutchinson)

TAV FALCO'S PANTHER BURNS -- Twenty years down the line, Falco hasn't changed his proto-trash psychobilly-blues attack one iota. Live, he's still a low-fi pistol as he slashes through each ragged performance like it's his last. The Earl (Horowitz)

JANE IVY -- Anne-Marie Perry, formerly of Guild the Lily, debuts the newest incarnation of her latest sonic experiment, Jane Ivy. Equal parts blues-rock and college alternative, Perry's sultry vocals and edgy delivery steam up the basement club at 9 p.m. Dark Horse Tavern (Smith)

LIZARDMEN, KICKSTAND, YUM YUM TREE -- Rock quartet Kickstand close out their Wednesday residency with a little help from their friends, the Beatlesque-boppin' Lizardmen and the sweet pop-rockers of Yum Yum Tree, who combine airy vocals in the Liz Phair tradition with fiery guitars worthy of Joan Jett's Blackhearts. Star Bar (Nicoll)

JONELL MOSSER -- Nashville resident Mosser is cracking the scene with persistence and a soulful folk-country style. A refreshing variation on the tired singer/songwriter idiom, Mosser's warmth is pleasantly understated and never forced. Andrew Kerr opens. Eddie's Attic (Smith)
